Two dams, one river below the confluence
Bull Shoals Dam 704 CFS White River source ▮ Min flow
Norfork Dam 371 CFS North Fork River source ▮ Generating
White R. at Hwy 341 above confluence 1,817 CFS · 4.77 ft 04:00 CDT ⚠ Tributary
Below Confluence estimated 2,188 CFS Hwy 341 + Norfork Dam combined ◯ Below threshold
Calico Rock USGS live 2,640 CFS 05:15 UTC · captures both rivers ⚠ Tributary
ⓘ Tributary flow, not dam generation. Crooked Creek (near Yellville, ~20 mi below Bull Shoals) and the Buffalo River (at Buffalo City, ~40 mi below Bull Shoals) both enter the White River upstream of these gauges. The CFS shown here is normal ambient river flow from those tributaries — not generator output. Good context for wading and float planning.
▼ Norfork Dam downstream impact — North Fork pulse tracking
Red's Landing Norfork pulse no gauge Rises — · Falls 5.0 hrs after release stops ✓ Passed
Calico Rock USGS confirmed 2,640 CFS live Rises — · Falls 11.5 hrs after release stops ✓ Passed

⚠ Norfork Dam running independently — Red's Landing and Calico Rock affected regardless of Bull Shoals schedule.

ⓘ USGS updates every 15 min. Hwy 341 USACE updates hourly. Pulse thresholds: below confluence >4,000 CFS, Calico Rock >5,000 CFS. Downstream gauges include flow from Crooked Creek and Buffalo River — both enter between Bull Shoals Dam and Hwy 341.

About This Tool

The White River Flow tool tracks water releases from Bull Shoals Dam and projects when the roll — the downstream wave of rising water — will arrive at eleven checkpoints from State Park (1.5 mi) to Red’s Landing (49 mi). It also projects when water will peak, begin falling, and return to low levels at each location, and provides a multi-day generation outlook for trip planning based on current SWPA data.

Data Sources
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Live hourly discharge, pool elevation, and tailwater at Bull Shoals Dam. Updates once per hour — readings may lag real-time by up to 60 minutes. View source ↗
Southwestern Power Administration (SWPA) Planned daily generation schedules for Bull Shoals Dam, published by the U.S. Department of Energy. Schedules are subject to change without notice. View source ↗
Historical Travel-Time Data Downstream arrival times are calculated using established water travel speeds for the White River tailwater (2.5–3.25 mph depending on generation level) and a fall-front travel rate of approximately 2.0 mph.
⚠ Safety Notice

This tool provides the best available information from official government sources and established river data, but water levels on the White River can change rapidly and without warning. Generation schedules may be altered at any time by the Army Corps of Engineers or SWPA. Arrival time projections are estimates only — actual conditions may differ due to changes in generation rate, river conditions, or upstream factors.

Never wade or enter the White River tailwater without first confirming current conditions. Rising water can be swift and dangerous. When in doubt, get out — or don’t get in.

For real-time confirmation, call the Army Corps hotline at 870-431-5311 or SWPA at 866-494-1993. Local outfitters who know their stretch of river are always your best resource.
